Tantrum

Beckett threw her first tantrum today. I'm told it happens when an unripe sleep is broken.

While Missus was very understanding and considerate about it, yours truly has a really low tolerance level to being threatened or extorted. So he promptly eliminated the prop of desire and tried to distract her.

She cried a bit, I got the look from Missus; but all is well that ends well.

Good Night guys.

The Drooler

With my beard gone, Beckett has found a new target / place to show her affection.

My nose and ears and cheeks were all covered in drool and marked with scratches from her nails right before I sat down to write this thing.

Full Pappa pe gayi hai.

P.S: It is alright to lift 7 month old kids upside down by their legs. They apparently like it in small doses. It is however not cool to try to lift them by their head in case you are married to someone like Missus. This was probably one of the reasons she was so hesitant to go back to work and leave Beckett alone with the likes of me.

Beckett Speak - once again

Dad shaved off his beard again today. Took me some time to recognize him. But I'm smart, I recognized him by his voice.

Am not sure which one I like better. The one With or or the one Without.

I like licking the floor. But both (With and Without the beard) don't let me.

I also think I'm like a mutating virus. Have developed considerable resistance to the sleeping techniques these guys use on me.

Gau Baa (my Grandmother) is cool. I've got her wrapped around my finger. Can totally hitch a ride to the playground with her whenever I want.

We got a new Bai. I miss Suman.

Kaaka is pretty awesome. Go check out his video.

Until next time, Adios suckers.

Boobs Redux

This one is for all the guy readers out there.

Ever wished you had a spare set of boobs just to prove to that your fathering skills are as top notch as your wife's? And to wipe off that smug look on her face when your daughter doesn't sleep after 45 minutes of walking in the park in your arms but dozes off instantly when one of those floopsies is set loose ?

Dad Instincts

I used to to think that it was all bull wacky, all hokey pokey, all stuff that people make up to boost their self esteem. All the talk of it being like the Force. Either you have it or you don't.

But it happened to me today. I now believe in the Force, and Dad instincts too.

And thank God for that. Else I would be writing something very different from a very unpleasant place.

Till then enjoy the Video below. The Horse thing is exactly what happened. Except instead of the horse, it was a bed and instead of a poor kid unable to balance himself, it was a curious curious unaware girl, hurrying to hurtle herself towards a horrifying hazard that harries her hapless father constantly.

P.S: You may want to argue the exact opposite point that given that I allowed such a situation to occur in the first place, makes my claims about instincts and forces quite untenable and credulous. But Beckett is fine; for today at least; and that is all that matters.

Origins: Beckett

Beckett is named after Kate Beckett from Castle, and unlike what most folks think, not after Samuel Beckett.

Although Samuel Beckett is a good role model to be named after and I'd be tremendously happy if Beckett becomes a writer (an artist, actress, athlete, or geek would not be bad either) like Beckett.

So here it goes.

Spend the years of learning squandering
Courage for the years of wandering
Through a world politely turning
From the loutishness of learning

And so it begins

Missus went back to work earlier last week. While she was really apprehensive about leaving Beckett and going to work, I knew this is the best thing that has happened to her since Beckett was born. She seriously needed some time off Beckett. I am extremely grateful to M/s Vodafone for the more than generous arrangement that Missus had during and after her pregnancy.

This means that currently yours truly is staying at home and supporting the two grand moms in feeding and cleaning and getting Beckett to fall asleep.

Yours truly thought it would be a great 2 week break, but it is nothing like that. For the first time in about 7 years I've had to work through my break period. So the work part was really badly managed by Yours truly. He should have planned better and delegated enough to ensure that family time +remains family time.

But Beckett has adjusted well to being fed by a spoon, not having Missus around while sleeping, and playing by herself with a new bunch of soft toys and plastic teethers. So I have that going for me.

Beckett is now almost 7 months old. She responds to her name being called out, remembers a few things like her favourite photos and toys (especially the little baby on the packaging of the walker and the local banya magnet that is stuck on the refrigerator), poignantly looks towards the sky to see birds and kites, gets excited when she sees cats, dogs, and kids, and spews out babbles like babababa and papapapa and dadadada at will (although she does not quite understand what they mean).

She effortlessly rolls around to get to the person or the thing that she is trying to get to, sits upright for a few seconds before falling over, is adept at grabbing things and has learnt how to hold a second thing without dropping the first.

Starting Monday, Beckett will be spending her days with her grandmother. Wish all of us luck.
